Go Fight

English version of Marathi poem 'Kanaa' (by Kusumagraj)

“Sir, this is me,” called in the stranger
Rains had ruined his clothes and hair.

Sat for a moment, then said with a smile,
“River Goddess visited us, stayed for a while.

Looking joyful, she danced in and out
But for my wife, everything was wiped out.

Walls sank and the kitchen is in ruins
Tears in my eyes, is her gift that now shines.

With wife on my side, I'm planning to fight back, Sir
Building back the walls, removing mud and mire.”

Looking at my hand in pocket, rose to his feet
“Don't need money, Sir, was feeling lonely a bit -

Hearth is broken, but backbone's still upright
You just pat my back and say, GO FIGHT!”
